Brighton Festival 2016 videos

Once again this year we’ve partnered with Brighton Festival to produce some great video content in the run up to the launch of the 2016 festival. This year marks the 50th festival as well as the 5th time Echo Video have been involved with it. We love getting a sneak peak behind the scenes in the build up to the launch and this year we were invited along to film a number of the artists who will be performing at the festival. In total we produced 6 short videos that spotlight key commissions and main attractions that will get audiences flooding into Brighton in May. These were filmed all over the city in interesting locations and below I’ve picked out a couple of our favourites.

Brighton Festival 2016

Marc Rees – Digging for Shakespeare

This video was shot on a beautiful day up at the Roedale Allotments in Brighton. We spent a few hours wandering around the site filming a few little bits and pieces before sitting down to interview the writer and director Marc Rees.

Spymonkey – The Complete Deaths

Another Shakespeare inspired piece of theatre, The Complete Deaths is a co-production between director Tim Crouch and Brighton theatre group Spymonkey. They were kind enough to invite us along to Bird Studios to film them rehearse and then interview Tim and the creative director Toby Park.

Festival promotional video

In addition to these 6 spotlight videos we were also commissioned to produce the main promotional video for the festival. As this year was a special event (what with it being the 50th year of the festival) we wanted to look back at the history as well as forward to the future. Someone had recently uncovered some old reels of film shot at the very first festival way back in 1967 which included footage of Cream, The Who, Cleo Laine and a host of other famous sights from that inaugural year. Therefore we hit upon the idea to produce an old fashioned newsreel of the event that would then transition into a look ahead to this year’s festival.
