Promotional videos can be an incredibly useful tool in any online marketing campaign. They increase engagement time on websites, quickly and clearly get across a company’s USPs and, of course, they look really nice. That’s why the Association for British Dispensing Opticians or ABDO for short, asked Echo Video to produce a promotional video for their college in Kent. The great thing about video content is that it can also be re-purposed and re-used so, at the same time, we produced an alternative version for ABDO to show at the many conferences and exhibitions they attend every year. This obviously greatly increases their offering in terms of what they have to present at exhibitions but also is a great and efficient use of marketing resources.
Initially we worked closely with ABDO to work out the brief for the video and make sure we all knew what we were trying to achieve. We discussed style as well as narrative, working out how best to present the college for the target audience. We were also sent branding guidelines and were brief on what tone the video should take to keep it in line with previous ABDO content.
The video itself was shot over two days at the stunning location of Godmersham in Kent, the former home of Jane Austen’s brother. This beautiful stately house lends itself perfectly to being filmed and we took our time trying to shoot the best angles for the video. This included an extensive drone shoot that captured the house from the air starting early in the morning as the students arrived through the mist until the sun broke through and we could see the house and garden in all it’s glory. On the ground, the filming included using a camera mounted gimbal to follow students and staff as they walked around the historic passageways on their way to class. We also shot a few vox pops with students in order to get testimonials and an insight into why they chose ABDO College to study.
The only downside to all this great looking footage is cutting bits out so we can keep the video at a good length whilst including all the important assets that ABDO wanted to portray. The main narrative is told by a voice over which we cast for ABDO and we then added subtitles for the exhibition version.
