Animations come in many different shapes and sizes, and can be as varied and imaginative as live action video. In this blog I’m going to look at the different styles of animation that companies have asked us to produce. This is by no means an exhaustive list as at the end of the day it comes down to our imagination and available budget.
Kinetic typography
This is when text is animated on and off screen in an interesting way. The words and characters should flow and be pieced together similar to a jigsaw puzzle. This technique is great if you have large amounts of text or it can make for a nice introduction to a longer animation. The video below contains some kinetic typography at 54 seconds.
Whiteboard explainer animations
These are currently very popular because they are clean, clear and simple. The idea of this style is to explain a process through simple hand drawn sketches that are animated on and off screen usually with a human hand. There are companies out there that offer these as ready to go templates which are great if you have a very low budget but they don’t give you as much scope for customisation as a bespoke animation would.
Iconography
Animations based on the use of iconography have been very popular amongst our clients. This is because a lot of them operate worldwide and icons can be universally understood. åÊThe åÊicons can be bespoke or bought on various websites and the we can animate them in a way that meets your available budget.
3D animations
3D animations are great if you want to explain or show something that a conventional camera would have trouble filming. This could be for things like flying through a visualisation of a building that hasn’t been built yet, or flying through an internal part of a machine whilst it’s still working. Other options include 3D character animations and matte paintings (adding computer generated graphics to a video scene (think Lord of The Rings or Game of Thrones).
Backdrops and backgrounds
This option enables you to incorporate videos in to animations. If you’re running an event for example, you may need some videos showing the nominees. This could be done by using video footage embedded within an animated world to 1) make it more visually appealing and 2) to make it sit within your brand. Another option would be the example below which helps string several interviews together.
